Fighting Hunger With Peanut Butter

As seen on The Rhode Show

Since Washington Trust began the Peanut Butter Drive in 2001, we have collected almost 120 tons of peanut butter for local food pantries throughout the communities we serve, as well as for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. That is enough Peanut Butter to make more than 3 Million sandwiches!

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 12 percent of Rhode Islanders (51,000 households) are food insecure, meaning they are often unsure where their next meal will come from due to a lack of resources. The Peanut Butter Drive helps to fill that need. But why peanut butter? The answer is simple - It's high in protein, loved by children and adults, and expensive for families in need. Just one jar of peanut butter will make 16 sandwiches for a hungry family.

Now in it's 17th year, you can support the 2017 Washington Trust Peanut Butter Drive by dropping off a jar of PB to any Washington Trust branch or office location. You can also visit peanutbutterbank.com to make an online donation to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. A $5 donation helps the food bank buy 2 jars of Peanut Butter.
